Woman Gets 'Runt' Of The Litter Kitten, Unprepared For What She Grows Into

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources.

When a woman from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, got herself a kitten, she was told it was the runt of the litter and that it would remain small. What the kitten then grew into has delighted users on social media.

The viral TikTok video shared in February under the username @torrrence, shows a clip of Belly as a small kitten, playing with her soft toys on the bed, followed by a shot of her now, a full-grown cat with a big belly, standing up like a bowling pin.

"She's the runt. She'll stay small," reads layover text in the clip. The caption says: "Still smol but large, you know?"

However, according to Dr. Sara Ochoa, of veterinary medicine website Cat World, not every litter has a runt, and just because a kitten is small, it doesn't mean that they are a runt.

So how do you know when a litter does indeed have a runt? The most obvious sign is the size of a kitten. Runts are usually significantly smaller than their siblings, having not received vital nutrients during and after pregnancy.

Runts struggle to suckle and are much weaker, so they may not play or explore the house like their litter-mates. Sometimes, they may also experience fading kitten syndrome, not hitting developmental milestones.
