Where's the most surprising place you've worn this coat?
To my wedding at City Hall. In fact, I planned my whole outfit around it — a simple white dress, white heels, and my trench.
The gray is a nice touch!
I pictured myself in a camel-colored trench, but when I came across this one, I was blown away. I left the shop that day without buying it, and that night, I had a dream about the coat. I knew I had to go back for it.
Where did you get your trench?
At a vintage store in Paris. I bought it for about $180 and didn't take it off the rest of the vacation. Now when I wear it, it's like I'm walking around with the memory of a great trip.
Have you had this coat for a long time?
I bought it 34 years ago. I must have spent $750, maybe even $1,000, for it, which was a lot of money in 1990. It was a status item for a young buck in financial services.
