Frosty Battle Between Ben ⁘ Jerry's And Unilever Takes A New Twist As Ice Cream Brand Claims...

In an amended complaint filed in New York on Tuesday night, the Vermont-based ice cream brand claimed that Unilever criticized former chief executive, David Stever, during his most recent annual performance review for "repeatedly acquiesce[ing] to the demands of the Independent Social Mission board."

The parent company then fired Mr. Stever — without approval from an independent board — over his "commitment to Ben ⁘ Jerry's Social Mission and Essential Brand Integrity" and not due to "any genuine concerns regarding his performance history," the filing states. Ben ⁘ Jerry's lawyers claim that such a move violated a stipulation in its 2000 merger with Unilever that "protects Ben ⁘ Jerry's interests by precluding the unilateral removal of its CEO."

Unilever, which bought Ben ⁘ Jerry's in 2000, agreed to allow the ice cream brand to maintain its social mission, but stipulated that it would have the final say on matters related to operations and finances.

What 100% Benefit Withholding Means

A major change in how the Social Security Administration handles benefit overpayments takes effect Thursday. It could dramatically impact millions of Americans who rely on monthly Social Security payments.

As of March 27, the SSA will begin withholding 100% of a recipient's monthly benefit to recoup any overpaid funds. This change replaces the current 10% clawback rate put in place by President Biden.

The Office of the Chief Actuary estimates the change will save the government $7 billion over the next decade . But advocates say the policy could create serious hardship for vulnerable seniors.

Anyone overpaid after March 27 will see their entire benefit withheld each month. This will continue until the SSA recovers the full amount. Payments will resume only after the overpayment is fully repaid.

⁘We have a duty to revise the repayment policy back to full withholding to safeguard taxpayer funds,⁘ said Lee Dudek, acting SSA commissioner.

⁘This is especially unfair to seniors who don't have outside help managing their finances,⁘ said Shannon Benton of the Senior Citizens League.

The agency also plans to lay off about 7,000 workers , which has raised fears about delays in processing claims and offering help.

⁘Theft Ring⁘ In Anne Arundel, Virginia Generates $190

According to a news release, county law enforcement worked with three police agencies in Virginia, as well as the Montgomery County Police Department, to apprehend the men:

Police said all three face charges related to motor vehicle theft, and Cousar and Washington were both charged with grand larceny. Cousar is the only suspect charged with armed robbery, a felony, and he will face that charge in Montgomery County, according to the release.

As of Friday afternoon, Cousar and Washington are being held without bail at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Parole, though police said Cousar will be extradited to Fairfax County, Virginia.

Throughout their investigation, detectives were able to identify multiple vehicles used in the thefts, which police said started Aug. 8 in Annapolis.

The Guidelines on Infection Prevention and Control aims at prevention and control of healthcare associated infections to reduce the use of antibiotics in healthcare settings that can be accessed at https://ncdc.mohfw.gov.in/antimicrobial-resistance-amr-containment/.

To raise awareness about AMR and to prevent misuse of antibiotics, awareness generation materials on AMR includes posters, videos, radio jingles on judicious use of antibiotics and on prevention of infections through hand hygiene have been made available for stakeholders. The media material in 12 local languages have been developed on AMR related information and shared with States & UTs.

National Programme on AMR Containment conducts activities to raise awareness on AMR among health care workers and community during World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) held every year. The fund allocated for year 2021-22, 2022-23 & 2023-24 Rs. 666.89 lakhs, Rs. 777.81 lakhs and Rs. 919 lakhs respectively.

German Skincare Giant Boosts China Investment, Taps Shanghai As Operational Hub

Skincare giant Beiersdorf said it's stepping up investment in China to strengthen new product development and launch efforts with Shanghai as an essential hub for its commercial operations and product introductions.

The German company, which makes popular brands like Nivea, Eucerin and luxury brand La Prairie, has pledged around US$31.4 million in new investment in China this year to update local formulas, new product portfolio and manufacturing capacity for future launches, it added.

⁘We will reinforce our local innovations and product development efforts in Shanghai and we believe new products have the potential to be extended to other Southeast Asian markets,⁘ said Ketin Lei, general manager of Corporate Affairs at Beiersdorf China.

Beiersdorf's Caohejing research and development facility with around 10 million euros (US$10.78 million) investment is the Germany company's largest outside of its headquarters in Hamburg.

The new investment decision comes after the regulatory approval of Beiersdorf's patented anti-spot ingredient Thiamidol630 in November, the first spot treatment ingredient approved since the implementation of China's Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation in 2020.

This marks the first step towards the complete registration of the finished goods to be distributed locally.

One of Eucerin's latest spotless brightening products with the patent ingredient was launched in Shanghai last month and follow-up imported products and locally made items will hit the market in the near future.

The company expects relevant products based on the new ingredient to generate about 1 billion yuan of industry value in the next two to three years, including several new face care products that are suitable for local consumers.

Revlon Appoints Chief Information And Digital Officer

Revlon appointed Ralph Marshall to serve as its chief information and digital officer, the company announced Thursday. He will assume the role April 1 and report directly to CEO Michelle Peluso.

Paul Smith, Revlon⁘s current CIO, will leave the position next month. Revlon did not respond to requests for comment.

⁘It's incredible,⁘ David says about his history-making performance. ⁘When I started this journey of doing reality shows and you're playing for big money, I never dreamed that I would play for this amount of money and get a chance to win this amount of money. It's so far beyond the scope of what I envisage to myself. So it's been really, really intense.⁘

David admits he was ⁘calm⁘ during the final temple when he played for millions of dollars. ⁘I was having a very spiritual experience out there,⁘ he recalls. ⁘I was feeling really connected to my dad, who passed a few years prior, and to God, and I just felt very spiritually driven when all that was happening. And I actually knew where that $12.2 [million case] was. I felt like I knew [briefcase] seven had the money in it. So I had made peace with the fact I was going to accept $5.8 [million], and I was thinking through all these different scenarios and how I would like this to go and want it to happen.⁘

This weekend's event near Energizer Park at CITY Point marked the continued celebration of its 10th anniversary. 5 On Your Side's Annie Krall was there hearing how the program gives young women and gender expansive teens a chance to learn the fundamentals of AI and machine learning.

"They're learning both how to be critical consumers of that, how do you understand the biases, but they're also learning how to be inspired to be the creators of that technology," Osi Imeokparia, CEO Kode with Klossy, said.

"How can I be the next machine learning engineer that's going to build the next great technology around this basic idea of how we're using AI to fundamentally shift the world."

Instructors told Krall that they themselves are alums of Kode with Klossy and have seen in real-time how the program is helping to close the gender gap in STEM.

"It's less likely to be a 50/50 split or be more even, so it's really important we're teaching these girls and non-binary people to get involved now and get comfortable learning this maybe intense programming," Kode with Klossy instructor assistant Mia Hines said.

Hines is currently getting her doctorate in computer science at Washington University in St. Louis and was one of several instructor assistants giving hands-on help to the 27 young teens between 13-18 years old participating in the weekend coding marathon.

Another in-person Kode with Klossy event is slated for this summer. Applications are now available online.
